In the late afternoon, we encountered a remarkable elephant procession at Botlierskop Nature Reserve. One after another, they slowly made their way along the track, moving steadily towards us in complete calm.

For a moment, it felt as though we were witnessing a silent parade. The elephants continued on their chosen path, while we realized that we were standing directly in their way. There was only one sensible thing to do: our safari jeep slowly reversed to give them the space they needed. We watched as the procession continued towards us, then passed by with an almost effortless sense of purpose.
It was a powerful encounter — not because the elephants did anything dramatic, but because of the quiet confidence with which they moved through their natural surroundings. We were simply guests on their path.
